Applications and End Uses
Scotchcal luster overlaminate 8519/8519CP and Scotchcal
matte overlaminate 8520/8520CP are durable,
overlaminates for use with most thermal ink jet and piezo
ink jet graphic films. These types of applications are
warranted by the 3M MCS Warranty.
Required on all warranted thermal ink jet graphics.

The effective performance life of 3M� Scotchcal� Luster
Overlaminate 8519/8519CP and 3M� Scotchcal� Matte
Overlaminate 8520/8520CP is based on field experience
and exposure tests conducted throughout the United States.
The actual performance depends on the:
� Piezo ink jet graphics: Manufactured by a 3M
Scotchprint� Graphics Authorized Manufacturer
� Thermal ink jet graphics: Manufactured by a 3M
Thermal Ink Jet Registered Fabricator.
� Correct combination of film or sheeting and inks
� Selection and preparation of the substrate
� Application methods
� Use on vertical surfaces (90°+/– 10°)
� Cleaning and maintenance methods
� Exposure conditions
Warranted Durability
Some graphics have a graphics warranty, while others are
warranted for product only. For specific warranted
durability, refer to the Product Bulletin for the film or
sheeting you are using. See 3M Related Literature at the
end of this bulletin.
Fabrication
These overlaminates, which have a pressure sensitive
adhesive, can be cold roll applied. Refer to the
instructions provided by the manufacturer for your
laminator and the 3M Related Literature section for further
information.
Application Tape
The type of application tape to use depends on the type of
graphic produced and the ink, overlaminate or overprint
clear that was applied last.

refer to the Product Bulletin for the film or sheeting
you are using
� For instructions on how to use application tape, see
Instruction Bulletin 4.3 for details.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Use a cleaner such as the kind used for high-quality
painted surfaces. The cleaner must be wet, non-abrasive,
without strong solvents or alcohol, and have a pH value
between 3.0 and 11.0 (neither strongly acidic nor strongly
alkaline).
Note: Graphics damaged by improper cleaning are not
covered by the 3M warranty.
Shelf Life, Storage, and Shipping
� Store the overlaminate in a clean, dry area, away from
direct sunlight, and at an ambient temperature less
than 86�F (30�C).
� Unprocessed film has a shelf life of 2 years after
receipt from 3M. Processed film has a shelf life of 1
year. However, the total shelf life of a graphic before
and after processing cannot exceed 2 years.
